True Meaning of Success

What does the word “success” mean to you?

Dictionary.com defines success as

1. the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals.
2. the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.
3. a performance or achievement that is marked by success, as by the attainment of honors: The play was an instant success.
4. a person or thing that has had success, as measured by attainment of goals, wealth, etc.: She was a great success on the talk show.

I would like to suggest an alternate meaning for this word as found in the following quote which I have posted on my wall and which I think about daily:

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.”  George Sheehan

As long as we attempt to grow, learn, expand, and nurture ourselves and move in a forward direction toward becoming the person we envision we can be, we have reached success.  The same thing goes with learning English as a second language. Having the courage, determination, and the will to constantly learn and practice new words, phrases, grammatical structures, and pronunciation brings you closer to the English speaker you would like to be. You will not just dream it; you will be it!  That is success to me. Do you agree?
